Connect TO UIC computer from home

A few of the steps below require administrator permission

  1. Prepare UIC Windows PC
    1. You will need the computer name. The computer must be bound to the AD to use the computer name. To check this, go to the start menu then Control Panel -> System and Security -> System. Look under the section that says "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings". If the domain says then using the "Full computer name" above the domain will work. Write that down since you will need the name.

    3. Remote Desktop will also need to be enabled. To do this go to the start menu and go to Control Panel -> System and Security -> System and then click on Remote Settings (need admin) in the top left. Make sure the option that says  "Allow connections from computer running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure)" is checked.

  2. Prepare remote computer
    1. First make sure you have a network connection through Ethernet or WiFi
    2. You will need to install Viscosity (need admin) onto your remote computer. Download it here for Windows or MAC.
      • You will only need to install Viscosity once, but will need to connect every time you want to remote into the UIC computer.
    3. Go to the start menu and type in "Remote Desktop Connection". This is where you will enter the Full computer name you wrote down from step 1.1 above. Then just enter your normal AD login credentials and a screen will pop up with your desktop from your UIC computer.
